**** CLUB NIGHT THIS FRIDAY — LAST OF 2011 ****
Friday 2nd December
At the usual place
Thorntree INN, (Lounge Bar), High Street, Cockenzie, Port Seton.
From 19:00 till late……………….

THIS IS THE LAST CLUB NIGHT OF 2011 and it would be FANTASTIC to see a BUMPER ATTENDANCE TO CELEBRATE “the CHRISTMAS CLUB NIGHT”. HOPE THAT YOU ALL WILL MAKE AN EFFORT TO COME ALONG….
I would also like to take the opportunity to wish you all and your families a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY, HEALTHY and PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR …2012 when it comes.
Note: January Club Night is the 13th January 2012

==============================================================+===================

As normal on club nights I will ask you all if you would like to donate (there is no pressure to do so) towards the club’s insurance, RSGB Affiliation, storage, call signs, etc. If you can spare now £2 instead of the £1 that would be absolutely superb also if you want you can donate for the whole year, starts January every year, which is £24, it helps me enormously plus I don’t pester you on Club Night

DEEPEST SYMPATHIES.. Colin GM0RLZ Family Bereavement

I just received a text a short while ago to say that Colin Brown GM0RLZ’s mother passed away this morning.

It goes without saying that all our deepest sympathies go out to Colin and his family at this present time.

It is a difficult time for all concerned and no words can ever replace their loss and all we can do is be there if required.

“Planning Permission” Talk Cancelled for Friday 18th November

Len Paget GM0ONX was going to deliver a talk on “Planning Permission” on Friday 18th November between 19:30 and 21:30 but sadly he has had to cancel as he has to be in Birmingham for first thing on the Saturday morning.
Do not despair as the talk has been rearranged for March 2012 as part of our 2012 Club Events. In its place I have decided I will use the night for further MORSE TRAINING rather than cancel the evening.
Apologies for late notice of cancellation but it is sadly out of my hands…. anyway will see you all for more “beepy stuff”

Orionids Meteor Shower

The Orionids peak occurs on 21/22 October 2011 just after the last quarter Moon (32%), with the Moon rising a little after midnight, just as the meteor shower radiant is gaining height. This year the peak is estimated at 21:00 UTC on October 21st.
Due to the position of the Moon when the radiant is gaining height at it’s peak the conditions of the Orionids aren’t that optimal.
Go to a high position one or two hours before the Moon rises and enjoy the ZHR rate of about 30 of this meteor shower. Enough to spend a good old night of excitement and counting.

TIMING: Go outside, find a dark spot and look north-east near the constelation of Orion for the Orionids radiant. The best time to view the Orionids is from around midnight to dawn. They are fast and sometimes bright with some trains. You should be able to see 30 streaks an hour or more during the peak.

The Orionids meteor shower is active from the 15th October to 29th October with fewer activity either side of the peak time.
