Some contesters are suggesting that you should be allowed to self spot once or twice an hour. In cw you get found via the reverse beacons so it kind of happens automatically. In ssb it doesn't of course. Everyone knows that when you get spotted, you get a boost for several minutes normally so if you have a group being spotted regularly by their cheerleaders, they are gaining an unfair advantage which would be negated somewhat by allowing self spotting.
I think if I was in 3V8, I'd be too busy working stations to even feel the need to self-spot.
You'd think 3k + 6-ele SteppIrs would be enough for some folks!
I have just received a message sent to me from Colin GM0CLN to say that his dad passed away this morning (19th April 2017) at Carlingwark House, Castle Douglas. Bob was a great gentleman and club member who used to attend regular club nights and other club events travelling up from Castle Douglas until age finally caught up with him stopping him from travelling. As always when these things happen I find on a personal basis difficult to find the words to express how I feel and say. It goes without saying Bob will be missed by all. Our deepest sympathies go out to Colin, Susan and Craig and the rest of the family at this time. Rest in Peace, Bob ... See MoreSee Less
An absolute gentleman and one whom I personally learned a lot about portable station construction from. R.I.P. OM.
Very sad news indeed, Bob was a gent and it was a pleasure sharing my early contest experiences with him. RIP OM ... -.- 😢
I'm sure this is a familiar sight to some of you......
Just to let you know that, if you or any of the guys are thinking of coming along, Dad's Funeral will be at Roucan Loch Crematorium, Dumfries, on Friday 28th April starting at 1pm. We'd love it if you could join us afterwards at Edenbank Hotel, 17 Laurieknowe, Dumfries for tea, sandwiches and cakes
It's not A.R., but nonetheless I've been enjoying putting up and aligning this motorised monster dish over the weekend. Now I can tune in everything from 45°W-45°E .. several thousand free-to-air channels of mostly crap! It's quite something, working with 10GHz when you're accustomed to HF. Anyway, I'm hoping this dish will come in handy when the Es'hail 2 AR satellite goes up next year! ... See MoreSee Less
