Question for any DMR users - Hotspots like the DV4Mini which plug into a USB port - are they legal to use, or are people operating in a grey area?
They have low power/range, with stub antennas that are practically a dummy load, which means you can essentially limit the RF emissions to your premises, and most importantly they are designed for your personal use, nor for use by other amateurs.
Or are they legally considered the same as proper simplex gateways, and thus require a full/advanced licence, NoVs, etc...?
I was wondering as I have a Foundation licence, and I love talking to people on DMR from my QTH, but feel bad for monopolising the timeslot on the proper repeater, which I feel would be better kept free for mobile users. Thus, I was looking to buy a DMR hotspot, but don't want to accidentally end up in hot water.
Thanks. ... See MoreSee Less
I don’t know the actual answer but I would check and see if this falls under the same blanket as unattended operation, beacons or repeaters which would require a full licence.

zero waste shop in Dunbar was a treat today. Picked up all this for a bargain. All from ex Broughton High. Nice wee oscilloscope, signal generator, and old school ammeter. still a few bits left if you visit including some bit cheap that require repair. ZeroWaste Dunbar

only thing is I think I'll need to use a couple of screws on the back to change the yaw of the oscilloscope screen as at very slight right to left upwards angle. the screws on the back look like they might do this.
