Due to going back to work nightshift on Thursday 4th july I will not be able to attend the vhf field day as I hoped too.
I have waited a long time to get back to work and I cant let this oppertunity go.
hope u all have a good weekend.

Bernie i suppose it all goes down to that same old arithmatic of the squared root and how much of it you have in the garden.in the last 15 years i think i have built every single wire antenna that there is and i must say that the monoband antenna beats them all,ok ur subjected to one or two bands but in the long run it saves a lot of problems and are easier to tune.you can read all the antenna books in the world but what works for one wont work for another.

Good reading above and just a little input as i bought a full size g5rv about 2 years ago and after much noise interference from the antenna i decided to put a 18 to 21 foot coaxial feed on a piece of plastic pipe and make a choke.this certainly made a huge difference in the reception sence but for all the wrong reasons it was deaf and this was more realised on the lower bands than higher.as time went on i removed the choke and the coaxial feeder and realised that the pl259 were thick with rust so that was that problem resolved.i then added another 33ft of 300 ohm ribbon feeder to the existing ribbon feeder and made a doublet.BINGO the difference was amazing especially on recieve as noise level went from S9 to S0.
so my point is keep away from g5rv.
maybe we could have a debate on a particular antenna say once a month and people could have there say on the forum and maybe people could learn from this and that way it could be like a study period whare people can put there thoughts across and get ideas,it may even catch on.73’s
