I’ve now extended the time a post can be edited to make it easier to correct problems and I’ve put the photos back on John’s original post.

To embed photobucket images into a post, just paste the ‘direct’ link into the post and the image will be embedded automatically

    Hi Steve,
I’m looking at different photo galleries maybe one that reads a Flickr feed but I haven’t found anything that is really nice yet.

As for the sked, I’ll see if anyone one shows any interest on the forum.

    John

To get the second column on the front page

dashboard / appearance / graphene options / display tab / column options – choose three columns (two sidebars right)

Note that any other pages you make will have the same format and you have to intervene by choosing a different page template for them.

The file browser is displayed by creating a blank page (called downloads in my case) and insert the file list shortcode from the WP-Filebase  icon.

As far as AFS is concerned, it’s not a contest we’ve entered much over the years.

To get a different layout on a new page, choose from the template list on the right when you are creating the page, depending on the theme you’re using you should get one, two or three column options.

    Steve,

dashboard / forums / all forums

you should see a list of the forums you’ve set up, click the edit link below the forum name and a standard editing window appears, just enter the text you want there and click save.

    Hi Steve,

    thanks for your comments.

The members registration is to allow people to sign up to get write access to the website.

You could just leave wordpress in it’s default state and allow comments on posts from everyone so no need for a forum but you’ll be exposing yourself to a great deal of admin dealing with spam.

We chose to lock down the website but allow people to register and get write access and this seems to work fairly well.

Choosing a forum module is straightforward but some of them are very complex, we started with Simple Press but moved to bbPress as we found the former too complex.

Restricting downloads to members is fairly easy, we use the wp-download plugin but it does require you to have registrations which you then have to administer and work to lock out junk and spammers.

On your DF hunts, they are a lot of fun, we do ours in cars so mobility isn’t so much of an issue (a less mobile person can act as radio operator while someone fitter waves the aerial about!)
