The infinitely variable switch! Way ahead of its time….
To alleviate the boredom of being off work, I turned this mornings time into working on my old LCL 2740 CB. Its a wee rig I hold dear to my heart as its the 1st Legal CB I ever bought brand new (Not this particular one).
When I bought this almost 40 year old radio, it was cosmetically fine, just needed a bit of a clean and I need to source original side screws and mounting bracket but those will come in time.
The little chrome rocker switches however were very grubby and when I tried to use them, they instantly failed leaving me to guess what position they were actually in. Now, these switches are Hi and Lo for the output power making the radio 4W or .4W. and the DX and Loc switch making the receiver just that little but more deaf. I have no idea why these switches would ever be used and I’ll never use them but I wanted them to function.
Its almost impossible to buy these separately so I had to buy 5. The originals are double pole but only use one side of the contacts so a pack of 5, 5mm Sub Miniature rocker switches were bought, sat in the shack for a few weeks and fitted today. (Cos I’m bored)
While in bits, I noticed the radio was transmitting 2.5 watts and this was quickly rectified.
This wee fix didn’t take long but I’m very happy with it. Hope you enjoyed the pics and vids. … See MoreSee Less
