LIGHTHOUSE WEEKEND- Barns Ness Lighthouse, Dunbar (16/17th August 2014)

Saturday 16th of August, the club will be taking part in this event and using the special call sign GB2LBN. We use this weekend as a general chill out weekend with BBQ and a few beers etc. A few members will be arriving on the Friday evening to start building the station and maybe get on the air. The station will be QRV till approximately 15:30 local time on Sunday 17th.

This is always a very popular event and we usually have a pile up on whatever band we are active on. The main bands will be 20m and 40m. 10, 15 & 20m will be at 60 feet with a Cushcraft A3S and we intend to install the 40m dipole from the top of the tower sloping off to a outbuilding, or that is the plan at the moment.

Please try and attend either for the overnighter (BBQ, Beer) (bring a tent etc) or just to visit and operate or have a cuppa. It is a chance to see two of our contest stations at “full tilt” albeit with reduced antennae.

Look forward to seeing you all there

I plan to be on site to start building the stations from around 12:00 on Friday 15th. Everybody is welcome to attend from then on. There’s always loads to do. Antennas don’t build themselves, and all the cabling doesn’t miraculously grow out of the ground.

Friday Night is always Pizza night (Umbertos pizzas are legendary). We’ll have a few small sherries and get ready for the Full Breakfast on Saturday. We’ll have a light lunch and get ready for the Saturday night BBQ. Sunday morning will be Full Breakfast time followed by another light lunch. The beer will be chilling and readily available at all times.

Oh aye, we’ll be expecting over 1000 QSO’s aswell.

As Bob said, Everybody is welcome, whether to operate, help build, dismantle the stations or just for the social side of things, it would be great to see everyone.

I can not stress enough that this is not a contest, It is a relaxed affair with no pressure to do anything at all. It would be nice to have both stations manned all of the time but its not important that we do. I will however guarantee that you will hear / work stations that you probably never would at home.

    See you all there.

Great weekend, 1200 QSOs in the log. Great company, food and banter. Typical club event.

Thanks to everybody who turned up.
