About us

Far from being a purely local club we now have people who travel from the Borders, Fife, Dumfries & Galloway, Strathclyde, Central and Lothian regions to attend.
The club meets on the first Friday of every month (second Friday in January), between 7pm and closing time, in the lounge bar of the Thorntree Inn located on the old Cockenzie High Street. You may come along for as long or as short a time as you like during these hours.

Club meetings are VERY informal events and are really an excuse to have a rag chew and a few beers of course!
The informality of the club, and our desire to keep it that way, dictates that there is no formal club committee. However, almost all club events are organised, on a voluntary basis, by a small core of enthusiastic members led by Bob Glasgow (GM4UYZ).
Some of the club members can usually be found in the Thorntree most Tuesday evenings discussing amateur radio, planning trips and talking about many other topics. This is not an official club meeting but all are welcome to drop in for a chat.

A feature of CPSARC is that there are no membership fees.
No money is required to attend a club night, except to buy the beers, or if there is a small raffle, and we operate on the basis that if you walk through the door you are automatically considered a member.
On club nights you will also be offered a copy of our award winning club newsletter containing all the previous months news, puzzles, cartoons, technical articles and information on forthcoming amateur radio events in Scotland.

Our expenses have risen a lot since the Club started (storage for towers, insurance, printing, callsigns etc.) and we now invite members to contribute to our expenses at £2 per club night.

In addition to club nights it is our aim to organise at least one other event each month. These include technical talks, equipment test nights, and direction finding hunts, visits, social nights, special event stations, contests and our annual junk sale.
The majority of our indoor events are held in Port Seton Community Centre and require the hire of a room or hall. At these events a nominal entry fee is charged to cover hire costs and any excess money raised is added to the kitty for our chosen charity - The British Heart Foundation.
