For a good number of years our VHF Field Day activities have been run from a location just to the south of Castle Douglas, Dumfries & Galloway after we were not allowed to operate from our original site at Longformacus  (change of Farmer who didn’t agree with what we were doing!!!). Due to a massive windfarm located in the middle of the Soloway Firth the site has become unusable.
The original plan for this year was to try out a new site down at the Mull of Galloway but due to change of circumstances we will now be operating locally from Lauder Common.
The site is located just off the B6362 road that runs between Lauder on the A68 and Stow on the A7.
Our locator for the contest is IO85OQ.
Bands being worked:
Full 24 hours – 2M and 70cms
Saturday – 6M up to 22:00 UST
Sunday – Replace 6M with 4M and operate 4M from 09:00UTC
VHF Field Day is a different challenge than HF. Still looking for long distance as distance gives us our points and when added up our Final Score.
Plan at this present time is as follows:
Friday: Leave very early afternoon and head to the site and start to build the three stations – 6M, 2M and 70cms.
Saturday: Complete the build in time for the contest starting at 14:00 UTC (15:00BST)
Sunday : Contest finishes at 14:00 UTC (15:00BST), then pack up and come home.
The advantage of it being local you can pop along and help and even operate if you only have a couple of hours to spare.
