An eager crew arriving on site early on Friday were met with cold winds from the north, making antenna building quite arduous, but it all got done!
The lighthouse is a fantastic site for radio, picturesque, quiet (electrically) and partly surrounded by sea water. Towers for 10, 15, 20, 40m raised yagis to heights predicted to survive the forecast wind, and were supplemented by wire antennae for 80 and 160m.
The flags presented excess windload, so were only flown for a short while.
How cold it was, was borne out by the two short flurries of snow balls experienced.
15m beam on a scaffold tube tower.
20m beam looking out over the sea towards Torness Power Station
John MM0CCC working the pileup…
Bob, GM4IKT checking his output power. 400W, honest!
Bob, GM4IKT hits the bell to mark yet another multiplier.
The full moon behind the 20m tower at night.
The lighthouse area by night.
View from the beach
80m dipole by night. Handy place to hang it!
And while there were more contacts than last year, there were fewer multipliers, so we’ll see what the score becomes. A great weekend enjoyed by all except a certain pair of wellingtons.30 October 2012 at 11:12 am #1930John MM0CCCMember
Thanks for your customary pictures and accompanying comments Geoff. A great weekend with good radio cndx, despite the apparent lack of mults. No big hardware problems either, and the craic was good too.30 October 2012 at 2:27 pm #1936Bob GM4UYZModerator

Great effort guys over 5000 QSO’s I hope there was beer on hand for the throats?
I think you could still win it again this year.
The photo’s are great, well I managed 6 contacts using some wet string and 100watts 😉
2 in Japan, 2 in Oz, 1 in East of USA and 1 in Indonesia.
I will have to post a pic of the setup its a laugh the G5RV centre was on some conduit stuck in a basketball hoop with the elements going over a sun shade touching a metal gutter with 2 metres between the parallel elements NOT opposing.
That was my CQWW probably the worst station on air 😉 any prizes for that?
I never gave you a call as you were very weak in the background but it still made my day that I could hear you. I was very very chuffed to do that from here.
Hope you do in fact win again.
All the best and good DX

Fantastic weekend and a great team effort all round from Geoff the chef to the shack pansies. Note to self, being last to arrive = trips up the lighthouse! Must get there earlier next year. Great craic, good food and a bit of radio hoyed in, not as many mults around as previous years but 15m and 10m were fantastic all weekend.
Converting the car to a camper van is much warmer and quieter than a tent in a howling gale!
73 all hopefully get a club night in new year.
